The Biggest Flea Markets and Braderies in France
The answer
The biggest flea market in France is the Braderie de Lille: over 2.5 million visitors, 5,425 exhibitors and 53 km of stalls in 2026 (City of Lille figures), which also makes it the largest flea market in Europe. Next come, most often, the Canal Saint-Martin braderie in Rennes, the Grande Réderie in Amiens, the Foire de Chatou and the Quinconces antiques fair in Bordeaux.
There is no official ranking: the figures below are those published by the towns or organisers, and they are not all measured the same way (visitors, exhibitors, kilometres of stalls). Our ranking combines these three criteria.
| Rank | Flea market | When | Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Braderie de Lille (Nord) | First weekend of September | 2.5 million visitors, 5,425 exhibitors, 53 km (2026) |
| 2 | Canal Saint-Martin braderie, Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) | Once a year | Often described as the second largest in France |
| 3 | Grande Réderie, Amiens (Somme) | Late April and early October | About 2,000 to 2,500 exhibitors, up to 100,000 visitors |
| 4 | Foire de Chatou (Yvelines) | Spring and autumn, about ten days | Over 300 professional exhibitors |
| 5 | Quinconces antiques fair, Bordeaux (Gironde) | Spring and autumn | Over 200 professional exhibitors |
Why is the Braderie de Lille the biggest?
Because of its scale: over a single weekend, 34 hours non-stop, the Braderie de Lille welcomes more visitors than all the others combined, and its stalls cover much of the city centre. It brings together private sellers, shopkeepers, second-hand and antique dealers, with a tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. The next edition is expected on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027 (traditional date, to be confirmed by the City of Lille). All the details are in the Braderie in figures and its history.
What is the second biggest braderie in France?
The Canal Saint-Martin braderie in Rennes is most often named second, including by France’s national tourist board. It is held once a year along the canal, mostly with private sellers. The Grande Réderie in Amiens also claims a podium place: “réderie” is the Picard word for braderie. It takes place twice a year, on the last Sunday of April and the first Sunday of October, in the streets of the town centre, and trading starts at dawn.
What about antiques?
For quality antiques, professional fairs are a better fit. The Foire de Chatou, on the Île des Impressionnistes west of Paris, brings together over 300 exhibitors twice a year; entry is paid. In Bordeaux, the Quinconces antiques fair sets up in spring and autumn on one of the largest squares in Europe. Outside the ranking, the Saint-Ouen flea market on the edge of Paris remains the largest permanent antiques market.
