Flea Markets in Lille: Where to Go Bargain Hunting All Year
The answer
In Lille, you can go bargain hunting all year: Wazemmes market (Tuesday, Thursday and above all Sunday morning), the Vieille Bourse book market (every afternoon from Tuesday to Sunday), neighbourhood braderies in spring and autumn, and of course the Braderie de Lille on the first weekend of September, the biggest in France.
Where to go bargain hunting in Lille on a Sunday morning?
Head to Wazemmes market, Place de la Nouvelle-Aventure (Gambetta or Wazemmes metro, line 1). The open-air market runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings, usually from 7 am to 2 pm; Sunday is by far the busiest. Around the covered market hall and the fresh produce, street traders and a few second-hand dealers lay out crockery, tools, records and small objects: a good place to practise haggling before the Braderie (our Braderie FAQ has tips).
Where to find old books in Lille?
In the inner courtyard of the Vieille Bourse, between the Grand’Place and Place du Théâtre (Rihour metro). Every afternoon from Tuesday to Sunday, booksellers offer second-hand books, old editions, postcards, posters and vinyl records. Hours vary with the season and it is closed on Mondays. On weekdays it is calmer and the sellers have time to help you look for a title.
Are there braderies in Lille outside September?
Yes. Several districts hold their own braderie or car boot sale, mainly in spring and autumn: Wazemmes, Esquermes, Vauban, Fives or Vieux-Lille, depending on the year. There are also themed fairs (records, coins and banknotes, old toys) and charity braderies. Dates change every year: the up-to-date calendar (in French) is on brocante-vide-grenier.fr.
When is the big Lille flea market?
The big Lille flea market is the Braderie de Lille, on the first weekend of September every year. The 2027 edition is expected on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027 (traditional date, to be confirmed by the City of Lille), from 8 am on Saturday to 6 pm on Sunday based on the 2026 hours. In 2026 it drew over 2.5 million visitors and 5,425 exhibitors along 53 km of stalls (the Braderie in figures). To find your way: the Braderie map.
