Braderie de Lille 2027 Safety: Security, Access, Tips and Rules

Safety at the Braderie de Lille 2027
With 2.5 million visitors, safety is an absolute priority for the Braderie de Lille. The Ville de Lille and the Préfecture du Nord put a major security operation in place to keep everyone safe on 4 and 5 September 2027.
The security operation
Law enforcement
Several thousand police officers, gendarmes and soldiers are deployed during the Braderie. Foot patrols circulate in every neighbourhood. Plain-clothes teams are also present to prevent pickpocketing and anti-social behaviour.
Access checks
The Braderie perimeter is secured with checkpoints at every entrance. Bags are searched and prohibited items confiscated. Anti-vehicle barriers (concrete blocks) protect pedestrian access points. Allow a few minutes’ wait at the entrances, especially on Saturday between 9 am and 11 am.
CCTV
Lille city centre is equipped with a network of CCTV cameras that operates 24 hours a day during the Braderie. A command centre coordinates interventions in real time.
Preventing theft
Pickpocketing is the main risk at the Braderie. To protect yourself, carry your bag in front of you or as a closed cross-body bag. Don’t keep your wallet in your back pocket. Avoid showing off valuables (phone, jewellery). Carry small amounts of cash and use contactless payment whenever possible. Stay alert in dense crowds, especially at narrow pinch points.
Prohibited items
The following are prohibited within the Braderie perimeter: glass bottles (replaced by reusable cups), sharp objects and weapons, smoke bombs and firecrackers, drones, and dangerous animals. Dogs on a lead are allowed.
First aid and emergencies
First-aid posts
The Croix-Rouge (Red Cross) and the Protection Civile set up several first-aid posts within the Braderie perimeter. They provide first aid and arrange evacuations if necessary. Find them on the Braderie map.
Emergency numbers
15 (SAMU, medical emergencies), 17 (Police) and 18 (Fire brigade) work as normal. 112 is the European emergency number, useful for visitors from abroad. Save these numbers in your phone before you come.
Left luggage
Left-luggage facilities are available at Lille Flandres station and Lille Europe station. They let you drop off suitcases and bulky bags so you can browse hands-free. Prices range from €5 to €10 per locker depending on size. Book online if possible, as they fill up quickly.
If something goes wrong
The Braderie’s information points (marked by a blue flag) can point you in the right direction if you need help. Lost property is centralised at the Lille police station. If a child goes missing, go immediately to the nearest police or first-aid post.
